The launching of Google Maps offered a new approach of building mobile applications, making it possible to integrate external geographically referenced data with the API map service supplied by Google. This chapter demonstrates the design and implementation of an android mobile application-based geographic information system. The system is built by adapting the Google Maps API library and building an application in which users can report crime as it occurs by providing details, like type and description, when the report is made. The application automatically captures the current location of the user in the form of coordinates and sends them to the cloud along with other details. Other functionalities include viewing tips on how one should act in preventing crimes.
